A Gold vs. Green Problem

My name is George and I suffer from a Gold Green battle. Not often, but when it happens, I beat myself up for quite a while: My best pillow died a year ago of old age. It came from a small local custom bedding store, was down filled, and I went back twice to have the owner take out more and more feathers to make it thinner to the point of perfection.

Us Golds want a deal AND want it off our to-do list. So my default replacement came from Walmart. In retrospect – not a good idea…but a good price. Then a trip to Ikea. I sort of test-drove a few as best I could, but had that pressure in my head that I need to buy one and not leave empty handed. After all, there’s nothing worse than going home without completing the to-do list! For a week it was fine until I realized it wasn’t fine…for a year. Then it was a Costco two-pack of really nice ones. Sure, test driving them with my hand wasn’t ideal, but I could always return them…They were nice but not “right.”

All the while my Green brain reminded me that I could have just researched it properly and not settled … while my Gold was NOT happy that I was 0 for 3!

Then I had a brilliant idea: Queen pillow in queen case scrunches it too much. So just buy a king pillow case and it’ll fit better/thinner. But all I could find is a two pack. That made me cringe to pay double when I just needed one. But did spend the $17 and put them into the laundry basket. Fast forward a week and it turns out king size is just longer and not any wider at all. Nice: Another Thrift donation and another few days of beating myself up that I didn’t first do a search on sizes.

Buying local was no longer possible as the only custom place had closed. But just buy another real down pillow and take it to a seamstress to remove half the feathers. Oh sure, probably two tries to get it just right at twenty bucks a try. Well, you can find a neighbor that has a sewing machine. After all, it’s just re-sewing one of the short sides. But that would involve asking for a favor and that’s something us Golds find super hard to do. Impose on someone for something like this? Not likely. My Green was right in that it would make it perfect. Sadly, my Gold “won” (lost) in deciding that was a step too far out of my comfort zone…

If you’re done laughing (and rightly so…) What’s one battle between your first two Colors? Yes, you have them. I bet I can give you a half dozen in whatever your highest two Colors are! Think about it. After all, you can’t change what you don’t know or acknowledge.
