Time to Celebrate: Bring On the Champagne

There is a huge difference in the culture (and Colors) between hockey and baseball. Hockey is the sports equivalent of farming: There’s more of a focus on what could go wrong, what will tomorrow bring, let’s not celebrate prematurely, etc. with a lot more Golds, Greens,and modest Canadians in the sport. When an NHL team makes it through any playoff round, they’re more likely to be nervous and to talk about the next series, how it’ll be harder, we haven’t won anything yet, and the likes.

Baseball’s culture is quite different with a lot more Oranges and Blues that’ll celebrate a win – any win in the moment. Won the game to get into the playoffs? Bring on the goggles and champagne. Won the wildcard game? Goggles and champagne. Made it through the first round division series? More champagne and the cleaned-up goggles….and so on…

Which one is “right” or better? That depends on the view of your Colors. Maybe it comes down to the question of whether happiness is a journey or a destination. Only one team gets the ultimate prize of being the best of the best. Should it be a black or white one-time celebration if you make it, but not the big victories along the way? Or should it be small stops in the playoff journey to celebrate a really big accomplishment of winning a series? Your call – your Colors judgment…
